Math

Math
For daily instruction the math department utilizes Eureka Math. This program is directly connected to the Math Common Core State Standards and balances both creative thinking and problem solving with basic fundamental drills.  With a focus on word problems, Eureka will help to prepare student for the rigor of math as they growth as learners.  Additionally, Eureka Math has new testing features to ensure students stay on track with grade level work.  Eureka Math Equip helps teachers to assess a student's understanding prior to the start of a new Module.  Students will complete an assessment at the end of each Module to assess their understanding of content taught via the Eureka Math Affirm site.

All 1st-8th math students start the school year by taking an assessment called i-Ready.  The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student's needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question.  For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.  The purpose of this is not to give your student a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your student's learning.  The i-Ready Diagnostic helps our teachers to create small groups and personalize instruction to meet the needs of students.

Additionally, students have access to various differentiated math learning websites.
  • All students will have access to the i-Ready learning platform.  This will be differentiated in response to students scores on their iReady Diagnostic.
  • All students also have access to the ZearnMath.  Zearn is a math learning platform which directly aligns with Eureka Math content. Each Eureka lesson has a virtual lessons on ZearnMath which is instructed by Zearn teachers with impeded checks for understandings.  Zearn lessons consistent of four (4) components: two (2) fluency drills, a learning lab/math chat and the tower of power.  The final component (Tower of Power) is similar to an Exit Ticket which evaluates students understanding after the completion of the Zearn instruction.
  • Additionally students have access to XtraMath.  This website is utilized to increase a student's math fact fluency.  The program helps students develop quick recall and automaticity of their basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).  Daily practice with XtraMath is extremely beneficial as it helps to create a strong foundation of basic math facts which will assist students to tackle more advance math.
  • 6th-8th grade students have access to ImagineMath
